Hi my name is James this Year my goals are to be a leader and to help people. This Year i´m glad to be in Tui class with Mrs Cutler. My favorite hobbies are soccer , playing with my friends , with nature , animals , and hot wheels. My favorite food is nachos and taco´s . Thank you for reading first blog post for 2019.

Maramataka

This week we have been learning about maramataka, meaning the moon season. Our class did a look about what it is and other questions.We did it Yesterday we did it because the season is almost here.We learned about the phases of the moon first we have a new moon then a waxing crescent aftewr that a waxing crescent then a full moon

The outstanding ANZAC button

Back in the day the button showed pride and it was carefully sewn onto the khaki jacket. It had dodged plenty of bullets on the battlefield. After the war he shoved his jacket in the back of his wardrobe. Every year he would rub the grime off his jacket and go to the ANZAC parade, then it was back in the old rusty wardrobe for another year.

 Plenty years later, when his great-grand daughter Ella had pulled out some photos and found him wearing his khaki in one of them. She went back in the box and she looked and found a less cheerful and older great-grand father on the back it said "at the Somme 1916".

Her mum said"that button had saved his life" she had pointed at the old ,rusty, dented button. Ella said"if this button wan't there I wouldn't be here"and nor would I"said mother. She snipped the buttons of his khaki jacket and found a soft cloth and polish. Then carefully she sewed the buttons on a red ribbon and put the special button in the middle and then off to the dawn parade.

ANZAC day is celebrated on the 25th of April every year, It was when the ANZAC's landed in Gallipoli, and to remember the people who served for our country.

Pablo Picasso

In class we have been learning about Pablo Picasso, he is a artist from the late 1800's and early 1900's. He is world famous for his cubism, here are some facts:

In early 1900's he drew a lot of blue painting's which we may call the blue period.

When he was 16 he joined an art school in Barcelona, remembering it is like university. Also when he was young he drew a lot of paintings people thought he was like Michelangelo.

Labour weekend recount

On Friday afternoon we went to Auckland. The next day we went to Gran's. First we scraped the flaky bits of the fence, next up sanding the whole entire fence after sanding we painted the first coat. The next day we came back and did the second coat and we started a ramp for Grans wheelchair we did the whole frame and then we left.

Movie study (contract)

This week we watched the movie Klaus we did a study on it for our contract. The movie was based on kindness and generosity and friendship. On our contract we had twelve activities to complete they were all based on the movie . My favourite activity was when we had to say 5 things that will fill up someone's bucket (make them happy). 


First Jesper was talking to his Dad than his dad said "you must go to smeerensbuurg and achieve to get 6000 letters delivered Jesper was upset. When he got to smeerensbuurg he thought to himself what is this place.                                   
                                                     
Jesper was there for days and he was worn out and upset till he met a name named Klaus. One night they went to a boys house and saw that he was happy that Santa gave him a toy.


They kept on giving out toys to people and they were so happy they started a chain of kindness and they started doing jobs for their parents so they didn't have to do them.

I recommend you watch this movie because it is a fun packed film and you will learn heaps of life skills.

Guy Fawkes Persuasive Writing

I agree that the sale of Guy Fawkes (fireworks) should be banned in New Zealand because you could scare animals, lose money, and make fires.


The usage of fireworks can cause animals to go wild. When the bang of a firework happens the animal gets really frightened and they potentially could lose their hearing. They also do unexpected things- a cow could run into an electric fence and get tangled up.


The amount of money that fireworks cost is unbelievable. At the Warehouse it costs from $12-$180. Also its basically a waste of money because they could be used up in under 2 minutes, so you could lose $180 just for a box of 20 fireworks in under 2 minutes.


Fireworks could go and hit a tree which makes fires that could burn down heaps of objects, and if a tree it could burn down a whole forest. People don't know where they're going to land so it could land on your neighbours house and since around 66% of New Zealander's get fireworks who knows what will happen?

In conclusion we should stop using fireworks so that animals are safe, we save money , and stop fires.

Amazing, Scary, and Relaxing

This morning Mrs Cutler told us to think of a one amazing, one scary, and one Relaxing to recap on the holidays and this is mine:


1. Amazing : I got to see my cousins I hadn't seen them in ages and we got to catch up,  and have fun and we got to play hockey, soccer, and rugby.☺


2. Scary : I had tripped up at the Ahipara rocks, I was running and I tripped up on a rock and I fell over and graced my knee and I bruised my elbow, immediately after I went straight into salt water and I also went bungy jumping I was scared but I had done it before and They upgraded it so that you could almost hit the water.😧

3. Relaxing: It Was not having to do anything I may had to do a few Jobs and I got to relax in hot water and sleep-in most of the holidays.😀

What happened in the cave that would haunt Henry for the rest of his life?

Each day after school Henry and his cousin George would go to a cave and play. Then one day they started digging and when George went out some pebbles started falling. Then Henry got stuck in pebbles and stones. When George found him he fell on him in sadness. Just then Henry started coughing and breathing that had haunted him for the rest of his life.

Why did Henry not enlist at the same time as George and how did he feel about that?

Henry did not enlist at  the same time as George because he did not want to go and sleep in the ground. But he felt bad that George went without him and he had kept it a secret till the last second and Henry still had to help on the farm.

What did Henry learn during his training and how was it different from what he thought he was going to learn?

Henry thought he would use weapons in the training, but but they actually learnt more about underground stuff which put Henry´s fear to the test.

The Great Narrative

Jenny and Lisa were having a grand time camping in a tent in the stormy backyard. They were laughing telling spooky story´s having fun until they suddenly heard a strange noise...

At first they thought it was a mummy from a hot dusty Egypt till the tripwire alarm went off they went outside with their flashlights and the thing ran away.

The thing got close and they saw the thing and the thing said¨please leave me my city has gone missing¨. Suddenly a portal leading to a random realm opened Jenny thought the zombie was getting them into a trap.

Hombie lead them into a city and Harvey the scientist saw them come out and was suspicious, even though he´s hombie´s brother.

The portal had shut and Lisa and Jenny were afraid. They had walked past a sign saying welcome to everyday Prague. They didńt know what to do so they followed him and realized it was the only way they could survive.

Hombie asked¨can you help me please¨ and they said ¨okay but on one condition you have to not come back to our house¨ and hombie approved

Hombie said¨ you are helping me to find my city¨. They all found this clock which seemed a little weird they touched it and were in the temple of Marvel , Lisa said¨ Oh my this was one of the jokes we were joking about¨.

Suddenly the Temple moved underground they looked behind them and found a clock and they saw it rise above the surface and Hombie had tears in his eyes and he said¨thank you so much¨ then Jenny and Lisa returned home and they lived happily.

landmarks of the world

Last week we were learning about landmarks of the world like: Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building, Great pyramids at Giza, Sydney Opera House, Colosseum at Rome, Statue of Liberty , leaning tower of Pisa, Buckingham palace and so on. I had chosen the Colosseum at Rome because the only thing I had known about about it is that it is in Italy and I like learning about new things.
We had a doc to share Information about our place we were, using the seven servants:Who, When, What, Which, How,  and the rest. This is a photo of the Colosseum:



Today we had a play on Google Earth we went to see all of the landmarks we also added some new ones like the The Great Wall of China, Big Ben, Times square, and so on. It is a app that makes the Landmark or place look more  realistic. It was a great experience

Explanation report

I would like to go to France to learn the history, scenery and more things this is why.

In the country of France in the continent of Europe their are 66.99 million people.

I would like to go to France to learn the history, France is the Third largest country in the European nation. They were apart of the Celtic territory also known as Gaul, they still have devastation from the two wars. 

Some food include: Baguette, Shrimp and prawn,crossount,cronuts, and chocolate Mousse all of them smell nice.

My family come from there it would be nice to be there to visit family like my cousins, Aunt's, and Uncles.

I would also like to go there because of the scenery, you can go visit Louvre museum, Eiffel tower. Its also the home of fashion.

These are my reasons why.

We were learning about landmarks I had chosen the Colosseum in Rome.
How to make a Information poster you can use the seven servants who, when, why, which, how etc and then you have a information poster.

share your learning {contract}

An Information report is a factual piece of writing having information about a topic or theme. It needs to have paragraphs so one would be History, Foods etc. We wrote country's down and we scrunched them up and threw them around I got Iceland this is my work.

Iceland is on the continent of Europe.They are the most northernmost country in the world.The population is 430,000 which is pretty small. Their capital city is Reykjavik. Iceland's currency is the Icelandic Krona. The languages are Icelandic, German, Norwegian, and Foresee. 

Their native flora and fauna are birch, ash, aspen, willow, and sparse the most famous landmark is the blue lagoon the Pingvellir the gullfoss and the Jokulsarlon.

Some famous people are Bjork Guomundsdottir, Vigdis Finnbogadottir, and Haldor Laxness they are the most famous people.


Iceland exports some foods and beer and yogurt they go all around the world. The foods are svio, Dried fish, Hot Dog and Hakarl and the beer Brennivin and yogurt Skyr.

Sandra Silberzweig art

Last week and this week we have been learning about Sandra Silberzweig. It started in week 6 in our math contract. We had an activity where there was a sheet with boxes and in those boxes we had to draw patterns and designs for our art we did it so it will give us ideas for our drafts. A few weeks later, we drafted for our copy. We watched a video about Sandra Silberzweig and after that the man gave us his process of the art in the video he said to start in the middle with a dot bring your nose from the top or side to the middle. We got given a piece of  A4 paper and we had to draft our copy first we gave it a go after our first sheet we got a second sheet using some of the elements that we liked about our first one after our second sheet we got a third one using the elements that we liked from both of them into one. The next process was our good copy we had to make it quite like our draft copy but on a A3 piece of paper we wrote our name at the back tiny and started to lightly draw our good copy. Next was Indian ink we did the Indian ink for thin lines and thick lines .The next process was chalk pastels we had to blend some colors with different colors and a balance between dark and light colors. I will show you mine 

Instructional writing

This week we are learning how to do instructional writing. Yesterday we had an activity called Monsters vs Aliens we were put in groups of two one person had to go to one side and the other to the other side our group had to go outside and Mrs Cutler discussed what our group was doing.We were doing monsters,
we had to draw a monster after that we went with our group person
we had to write instructions about how to make our monster.
After our instructions we read each others instructions and tried to make a similar copy using their instructions we were learning how to copy instructions and how to write instructions. 


TYING SHOES Today we wrote about how to tie your shoe laces first we watched a video about how to write instructions. We learnt to make it specific 
we put Lily in the middle and we told our instructions to her she did´nt tie them because our instructions were not specific she checked to see if we made it specific. Went to write it another time after we learnt to make it really specific and it worked they tied their laces from our instructions.

We learnt to make instructions and how to read and listen to instructions,Here are some results.

A moment in time

                                                            Mountains.

I saw my school and bright blue skies.Which gave me a relief but we are standing on top of a giant peak.

I hear a fright but my friends cant believe what is happening to their vision

I felt very scared climbing up top and not feeling well but my biggest concern is one of us might fall off.

I wonder if one of us will fall down this steep rocky hill.

clay birds

2 weeks ago we made clay birds we learned about strategy and focusing. We did it because we were doing native birds to New Zealand I chose the Tui because it was our class name and their sweet sound is delightful to hear.I felt very excited, first we got 1 big piece of clay and shaped it out.Once we are done we could use some tools for detail.Then we got to use paint for our birds and the Tui has quite a lot of colors.It is a part of our learning because last term we were learning about sustainability and  native animals 

PEST problem

We created an animation to share a message about an environmental issue in NZ and give people some ideas on how to help.I chose mine about possums because they are becoming a big problem, they are destroying our country and native animals.

Subtracting and adding tidy numbers

This week we´ve been learning to subtract add tidy numbers , tidy numbers are each number going in 10s and 5s our teacher gave us equations to solve for eg; 51-___=18 or 50+____=88  so the strategy is round the nearest ten if subtracting which will go backwards so it will be 50 so -1 but going forward (adding) it will be 60 so +10.


You can do it by using number lines or just add it .It is  just like adding to 10.

M…. Possum´s kill our native birds like tui, kereru, kakapo, kiwi, piwakawaka, kea, pukeko, and their habitats an

I…. they got shipped to New Zealand from Australia in the late 1890s.

The authorś purpose is to let us know how bad the possums are and that we all need to do something about it.  Like possum trapping in our gardens.
